Objectives of the course

Sustainability and cultural awareness are seen as two strictly intertwined dimensions. Sustainability will therefore be investigated starting from the sustainability of an individual role within an organizational environment, then examining the sustainability of an organizational (cultural) identity both at a strategic and a relational (communication) level, ending with the analysis of a sustainable cultural environment. Cultural awareness will be analyzed as a self-development, organizational and collective awareness process to be implemented through the acquisition of leadership and entrepreneurial skills and through the design of policies and initiatives aiming at social cohesion and inclusiveness, and based on innovative cultural entrepreneurship approaches and curatorial practices.

Course content

After an introductory theoretical section, the Course will focus on two case studies:

  • The Festival del Medioevo (Festival of the Middle Ages) in Gubbio ( Students will design ex novo the English version of the Festival website, framing it correctly in the Festival communication strategy so to attract European audiences and engage them in durable and sustainable relationships. The task will be accomplished taking into account the central role played by high quality content in building effective, value-rich and long-lasting relationships with different stakeholders (general audience, scholars, sponsors etc.) and the enabling function of Information Technology as to strategy design and organizational sustainability;
  • the Parco degli Acquedotti (Park of the Aqueducts), a part of the Parco Regionale dell’Appia Antica (Appia Antica Regional Park). Students will design a sustainable management model for the exploitation – both cultural and economic – of the Parco. The task will be accomplished taking into account the documentation about the area and its historical configurations analyzed in the Heritage module, and the different cultural memories and identities documented in the audiovisual products investigated in the Media module. Students will work  on this case study through the methodology LEGO® Serious Play®, thanks to the cooperation of Fondazione Mondo Digitale.
