Sonia Massari è Direttrice Accademica di University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Food Studies programs a Roma, e dirige fin dal suo inizio, Gustolab International Food Systems and Sustainability, primo centro italiano per lo studio universitario all’estero della filiera alimentare che coinvolge più di 15 Università Statunitensi e istituti internazionali.

Dal 2013 al 2015 , Sonia Massari ha insegnato a contratto “Sociologia” (Design di Scenari emergenti – focus su Food Systems) presso ISIA Roma Design- Sede di Pordenone. Dal 2015 è docente a contratto del corso “Sociologia del Mutamento” (Design di Scenari emergenti – focus su Food Systems) presso ISIA Design di Roma, laurea specialistica in Design dei Sistemi.

Dal 2011 collabora con l’Università di Roma Tre: Master in Linguaggi del Turismo e Comunicazione Interculturale e Laurea in Scienze e Culture Gastronomiche.  Dal 2017 è inoltre docente a contratto del corso “Sustainability Design Thinking” presso l’Università di Roma Tre – Facoltà di Economia e studi aziendali.

Dal 2015 insegna in quanto esperta nel Master in “Food Design” della Scuola Politecnica di Design a Milano.

Dal 2012 è consulente per centri di ricerca, aziende pubbliche e private, fondazioni come ricercatrice, designer e trainer (Fondazione Barilla Center for Food and Nutrition, JRC Ispra e Seville _ Joint research centers della Commissione Europea, IAL, Sunstar, RAI, ….).

Nel 2012 è stata vincitrice del premio “Donne e Tecnologie”: “Premio Women Innovation” destinato a donne impegnate nell’innovazione in cibo e nutrizione e nel 2014 ha vinto il premio internazionale Innovative Research in International Education, NAFSA.

E’ membro del board di ASFS (Association for the study of Food and Society), di FDXE ( Educational network on Food Design) e Ambassador di WeforExpo. Fa parte dell’editorial board di International Journal of Food Design, Frontiers e  Temes de Disseny journal, Elisava Spagna. 

Dal 2015 è membro della Commissione ADI sul food design, e dal 2016 coordina la commissione ADI Index sul Food Design.
